Quests
Quests come in packs: a short chain to start you off, a few jobs each day, the people of the camp and the hamlets with work for you, and any quests a world's owner writes for their own world.

First Steps
The first time you enter a world, a chain of seven steps starts on its own. Each pays gold, and the last some bandages too:
- Carry 3 sticks, 3 stones and 2 fibre.
- Make anything.
- Chop 10 logs.
- Build a campfire.
- Build 4 walls.
- Find 3 pages for your Codex.
- Defeat 3 creatures.
The day's work
Two daily quests come round each day: gather 20 of anything, and make 3 things. The camp in the Proving Grounds also has a quest board with three jobs a day. Press G at it, or □.
At the board the world blurs and the jobs lie in a row as cards: what the job asks for, whether it is daily or weekly, its name and what it pays. Jobs you have taken come first, the finished ones at the front, with what you have done so far. Press a card to take the job and follow it on screen, press a finished one to hand it in and be paid, or press a taken one to follow it or let it go (T). Move with the arrow keys or A and D, or the d-pad; leave with Esc or ○.
People with work for you
A gold ! floats over someone who has a quest for you. A ? shows over the one to hand it in to; it stays grey until the quest is done. In the camp, the smith, the provisioner, the tailor, the wandering healer and the magistrate give quests. In the hamlets, any elder, farmer, woodcutter or stallkeeper does, and so do the Norse skald and the Turkic ozan. A delivery quest takes the things you bring when you hand it in.
When you talk to someone, their name and words appear over the world like subtitles, with your answers under them, each with its number key. A quest on offer has a coral ! and one ready to hand in a green tick, and a card beside it says what the quest asks and what it pays. Choose with 1 to 4 or Enter, or the d-pad and ✕, and leave with Esc.
The quest log
Open your quests with F7, or from the pause menu (see Controls). There you claim rewards and choose up to three quests to follow on screen. Rewards are gold and things.
A world's own quests
Whoever owns a world can write quest packs for it, as small text files in that world's quests folder (Quest packs, then “Open this world’s quests folder”). Everyone who joins the world plays them. If a pack has a mistake in it, the game lists it with what to fix.
Writing quests inside the game, the longer quest chains from the earlier 2D version, and quest marks on the compass are planned. Coming
